All 50 US States Tax Directory — Tax Deduction Atlas

State tax varies enormously across the US. Nine states have no income tax at all. A dozen have flat taxes. The remaining have progressive brackets from modest (Pennsylvania 3.07%) to steep (California 13.30% at the top). Retirement, Social Security, capital gains, and reciprocity rules differ state by state.

Tax Deduction Atlas publishes a complete 10-page reference for every US state — Overview, Deductions, Credits, Brackets, Calculator, Residency, Retirement, Social Security, Part-Year/Non-Resident, and Reciprocity. All 50 will be live by end of Q2 2027.

Currently live: California (all 10 pages). Building next: Texas, New York, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois. See launch roadmap below.

The 9 no-income-tax states

No state tax on wages, salaries, or (mostly) retirement income

These states raise revenue through sales tax, property tax, severance tax on natural resources, or (in Alaska's case) oil royalties. Washington has a capital gains tax that applies only to gains over $250,000. New Hampshire taxes only interest and dividends (phasing out by 2027). Tennessee eliminated its Hall Income Tax on interest/dividends in 2021.
